Thanksgiving!

It is truly a sad sight to see three bikers trying to run, but that has been the story here in Eau Claire for the past month. Chad and John have been at it for the past few weeks, and I joined them for the first time early this week. We only ran for 40 minutes or so, but I'm still hobbling around campus. I'm hoping I adapt pretty quick, or it's going to be a long winter.

John and I have been lifting a few times a week also. Getting huge. Warming up in the weight room on a stationary bike really makes you want to get outside and ride. Unfortunately we've had some snow/rain here. It's fair to say, though, that we have all been in off season mode lately. Chad has been mega busy, and is now officially student teaching at a school in chippewa falls. We're getting close to heading back up to Spoon town for some turkey and mashed potatoes and to catch up with the family.

Couple of other fun things;

Check out Tj Woodruff's new coaching program website: www.momentumendurance.com

and

Chad's 9.9 is on Ebay right now, so if anyone is looking for a lovely bike let us know.

So that's it around here. I hope everyone's cross season is going well!

Happy Thanksgiving,

-Chase

Came across your web site attempting to find the 2007 event schedule from the pcw site, which is not posted yet. I enjoyed reading your publications. Have a couple questions you may be able to answer ... or perhaps direct me to the right place.

Do you and /or the New Moon cycle shop arrange road bike tours as well as cross country?

Where would I get the 2007 event schedule for pcw ... or is it simply not available at this time?

I read your article regarding "running" as a method to maintain or get into shape, in the so called off season. I no longer race but do ride between 3 and 4 thousand mile a year. One of the guys I ride with, road with Armstrong during the first two tour De France wins. We also have two medical doctors in our small riding group. Your more than likely wondering where all of this is going ... there are numerous medical opinions and differences but, the majority of professional road bikers and doctors I have talked to over the past years have advised me that running is not the answer. The option most widely used method for off season conditioning is attaching your bike ( or a Bike) to an adjustable trainer station / device. Guy's, you can,t ride a bike with bad knees and running causes excessive stress to the knees. I know how frustrating not being able to ride can be. I also live in a climate similar to that which you live in and there is a good deal of down time during the winter months. I would however rule out running (whenever possible)as a conditioning option. I am now an "old timer" (60+ years old), rode thousands of miles, never did run and can still ride with the best of them. From past experiences and various information obtained over the years, it seems that running and biking are not a good mix for someone highly involved in A cycling sport.

Hey there,

I'm not sure what New Moon does for rides each year, but I do know that Riverbrook in Spooner has many weekely rides. (www.riverbrookbike.com, 800.297.2687)

As far as the PCW schedule goes, I'm sure it will be posted soon. there are so many riders that we have people at almost every mountain bike event and many road events.

I understand where you're coming from with the whole running thing. The main reason we're running is out of pure boredom. At this point in the year it's tough to find the ambition to get out and ride, especially with the cold. But it is also way too early to begin stacking up miles on the wind trainer. Running is just a way to get get the blood pumping, definitivley not a training techinique or method to maintain fitness.

Where do you live? If you are around during the spring you should join us on a few rides. We're always looking for another rider!

This is great! Wow.

At least running will help your bone health and ward off osteoperosis later in life... And it will help maintain some general cardiovascular fitness to boot.

But seriously guys, shouldn't you be doing trainer miles for that '07 PCW Race Schedule already??? That's what Lance would be doing you know...
